SHEILA Tandy

About Sheila

A Glasgow-born artist Sheila Tandy is a graduate of Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen. She is an artist member of Paisley Art Institute, a past President of the Glasgow Society of Women Artists and the current Membership Secretary, she also serves on the Glasgow Southern Art Club committee.

After graduating, she spent time as a wildlife artist in Zambia, creating designs for the two copperware manufacturers there. Before leaving Africa she had a successful exhibition of wildlife paintings which helped pay for travel around the world, visiting such interesting countries as Sri Lanka, Thailand, Japan, Alaska and extensively around Europe.

Influenced by the work of Margaret Macdonald, the wife of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Sheila started her own business Forecast Sculptures in 1999, creating limited edition gesso panels. Some were inspired by Mackintosh and some her own designs. These are in collections around the world. In 2006 she completed a commission for nine large panels to decorate the walls of the Brasserie of the popular Glasgow venue ‘Oran Mor’.

Although now retired from panel-making, she occasionally takes on commissions and a few of the Limited Edition panels are still available. In recent years she has concentrated on original design gesso panels and painting. She finds the immediacy of painting a pleasant antidote to the long slow process of panel making.
